Mrs.
Bates earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Applied Human Sciences with a concentration in
Dietetics and Food Systems Management from East
Tennessee State University in 1997. While in
college, she worked in various capacities in
nutrition services at Johnson City Medical
Center. Following graduation, Mrs. Bates worked
on the nutrition team at Johnson City Medical
Center as a dietitian’s assistant. In January
of 1998, she took a position as the Dietary
Supervisor at Norton Community Hospital. In
August of 1998, Mrs. Bates became the Supervisor
of Food Services for Wise County Schools. Mrs.
Bates is certified in ServSafe, a food safety
program under the National Restaurant
Association. She has certification as a School
Nutrition Specialist, having sat for the
national credentialing exam.
