Mr.
Hurt is a product of the Wise County School
Division. He attended J. W. Adams Elementary
School for grades K-6 and graduated from Pound
High School with a Governor’s Seal Diploma in
1991. Mr. Hurt received a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in History from Clinch Valley College in
1997. He also earned certification in K-12
Special Education with endorsements in ED, LD,
and MR. Mr. Hurt received a Master of Science
in Education Leadership Degree from Radford
University in 2001. Currently, he is working on
his Ed. D. in Educational Leadership through
ETSU and has accumulated over fifty credit
hours in this endeavor. He has submitted the
second draft of his prospectus which is pending
chair approval. Mr. Hurt began his professional
career as a special education teacher at Powell
Valley Middle and High School in 1997. In 2001,
he became a K-3 special education language arts
and math teacher at J. W. Adams Combined
School. Following this tenure, he became
assistant principal at J. W. Adams Combined
School in 2002. In 2006, Mr. Hurt was appointed
Director of Technology and Testing for Wise
County Schools and in 2009 assumed the position
of Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
