On February 23, 2011, the Board passed the
following motion to proceed with a public hearing on a
proposed plan of consolidation.
“In order to increase the efficiency of the Wise County School
Division, to provide a stronger curriculum, to enhance the
instructional program and to offer better educational
services to the students of Wise County, I move
that we consolidate Wise County's six high schools to three
by bringing Pound to Kelly, Appalachia to Powell Valley and
St. Paul to Coeburn pursuant to the plan just presented by
the Division Superintendent and that we direct the
Division Superintendent to advertise notice of a public hearing
regarding this plan to a special called meeting on March 30,
2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the JJ Kelly auditorium and that immediately
after that public hearing, we vote on whether
to
consolidate our schools pursuant to this plan.” |
