Dear Friend,
On behalf of
the board of education and the office of the
superintendent, we welcome you to the Wise County School
Division Homepage. As a graduate of the Wise County
School Division, it is an honor and privilege to come
back home and to serve as the division superintendent.
I have had the good fortune to serve in various
capacities in many different school districts over the
last two decades as an educator and as an
administrator. My educational career has provided me
with a number of experiences that has helped me grow as
a professional and as a person. One of the greatest
benefits of being involved in many other school
districts is realizing how special and unique Wise
County actually is. I always knew that this area was a
wonderful place to live and to work, but often it takes
moving away for a little while to truly appreciate the
many special aspects of our community. We are blessed
with so many positive things in this county and I feel
extremely fortunate to be back home.
It is our
sincere hope that this year will be both a productive
and enjoyable one for you and your family. The staff,
the board of education, and the office of the
superintendent are committed to providing our community
with the best possible educational and extracurricular
opportunities. We will be relentless in our efforts to
consistently improve the school system in an attempt to
better serve you. We hold the firm belief that every
child within our division possesses a unique skill and
talent which can be of extreme benefit to the
community. It is our primary responsibility to help our
children discover these talents and to help them reach
their intellectual, social, and physical potential. It
is also our responsibility to provide our teachers and
support staff with the necessary resources, supplies,
equipment, and leadership to enable them to be
successful in the classroom.
We will
accomplish the mission of helping students and educators
reach their potential only when the community and the
school division become a unified team. I believe there
is a great deal of energy, strength, and power within
our county. We must create and foster the necessary
partnerships, connections, and relationships to tap into
this power and to create more of a sense of team
throughout the entire county. We must also ensure that
we become a source of energy and a valuable asset for
the community. The school division exists to serve the
needs of our community, parents, and students. We are
dedicated to this premise and will work diligently to
provide the very best to your community. We hope to
create a spirit of cooperation and sense of family
throughout the county that will bring us together to
deal effectively with any issue.
Without
question, we have a number of challenges that we must
address. We have struggled with the issue of
consolidation/renovation for many years now, and this
debate has inhibited us from addressing a number of
important issues. Although this is a very difficult and
emotional issue for so many individuals, it is time to
move forward and to prepare our children and school
division for the future. We have begun the process of
formulating a plan that will be presented to the board
of education and community over the next several
months. It is also certain that we will face some
difficult economic situations in the next few years, but
we are stronger than all of these issues. We are
confident that we have the type of community, educators,
administrators, and leadership to overcome any obstacle
and to make Wise County Public Schools an exemplary
school division.
Please do not
hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or
concerns. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to
serve as your division superintendent, and I look
forward to working with you and your children. I wish
you the very best.
Sincerely,
Jeff Perry
